The emojis that earn their place on LinkedIn do a job a word would otherwise do. A check in front of each item says “this is included”. A pointing hand says “this line, not the others”. A chart next to a number says which way it went. A pin before a city says where. In each case the reader gets the meaning before they read the words, which is what a marker is for, and the post reads the same with the emoji removed.
Decoration is the other kind: the rocket that opens every launch post, the sparkles after a product name, the three fires after a claim. It adds nothing a reader can use, it is read aloud by screen readers, and it has become the signature of posts written to look enthusiastic rather than to say something. If a post needs a rocket to feel like a launch, the first line is the problem, and the hook generator is the better tool.
๐ at the start of an announcement. ๐ next to “comment below”. ๐ฅ repeated. ๐ก before an opinion that is not an idea. โจ around a product name. None of them is wrong on its own, and all five together are what readers now recognize as a post that was generated or written to a template. The AI content detector on this site flags the sentence patterns that travel with them.
The alternative is not fewer emojis for their own sake. It is choosing the one that carries the meaning and leaving the rest out: one ๐ next to the number, and nothing after the claim, because the claim is the point.
