LinkedIn character counter

A LinkedIn post caps at 3,000 characters, but the limit that actually costs you is the one nobody counts: the three lines a reader sees before deciding whether to click. Paste a draft below to check it against every LinkedIn limit at once, and to see where the feed will cut it.

Everything here runs in your browser. Your draft stays on this device, follows you across our free tools, and is never sent to us.

The same editor

You have been using our editor without the account.

The toolbar above is the one inside Depost AI: same styles, same bullets, same counter, same preview. What the free version cannot do is the hard part, which is knowing what to write in the first place.

It reads your analytics first

The draft starts from what has already worked on your audience: your hooks, your pillars, your posting patterns. This page can tell you a post is 240 characters. It cannot tell you the opening is one you have used four times.

Ask AI, and rewrite in place

Select a line and rewrite it, in your voice rather than in the flat register every generator defaults to. Accept, try again, or discard, without losing the draft you had.

The graphic comes with the post

Images, video, documents, and polls attach in the same editor, and the infographic is designed against the post rather than picked from a stock library afterwards.

It schedules itself into the gaps

Send a finished draft to the queue or to the next free slot, published through LinkedIn’s official API. Nothing goes out until you approve it.

Comments, reviewers, and a first comment

Leave a note on a selection, assign a reviewer, and have the first comment written with the post so it is ready the moment the post goes live.

Every revision is kept

Undo here lasts as long as the tab does. In the product, the version you had on Tuesday is still there on Friday.

Connect LinkedIn and you have a strategy, your pillars, and your first post ideas in about fifteen minutes.

Every LinkedIn character limit

Verified against LinkedIn on 18 August 2026. The post limit is the one enforced in the Depost AI editor, so a draft that passes here passes there.

The limit that decides whether you get read

Three thousand characters is a ceiling, not a target. The number that changes your results is the three lines the feed shows before it collapses the rest behind "see more", because that is the whole of what most people will ever read. Everything after it is opt in.

That cut is measured in lines, not characters, which is why a fixed number like 210 is unreliable advice. Break your opening into two short lines and you have spent the preview on eleven words. Write one continuous sentence and you get considerably more. The preview tab above lays your text out at the feed's real width and reports where the cut actually falls on the words you wrote.

The practical use of a counter, then, is not staying under 3,000. It is deciding what earns a place in the first three lines, and checking that your headline still tells a buyer what you do in 220.

Questions

How many characters can a LinkedIn post be?
Three thousand, including spaces, emojis, and line breaks. The composer stops accepting input at the limit rather than truncating what you already wrote, so a pasted draft that runs long simply arrives cut off.
How much of a post shows before "see more"?
About three lines. It is a line count rather than a character count, which is why the answer moves: three short lines of dialogue get cut far sooner than one dense paragraph. The preview tab measures the cut on your actual text instead of guessing at a round number.
Do emojis, hashtags, and line breaks count toward the limit?
All of them count. A line break is one character, an emoji is at least one, and hashtags count as ordinary text. A post that sits at 2,980 characters before you add spacing can cross the limit once you break it into paragraphs.
Does bold or italic text change the character count?
It should not, and here it does not. Styled letters are separate Unicode characters that many counters record as two each, which is why some tools claim a bolded post is twice as long as it is. This one counts by character, the way LinkedIn does.
What is the LinkedIn headline character limit?
Two hundred and twenty for a personal profile headline. It is the most reused text you own, since it follows your name into every feed, comment, search result, and connection request, so it is worth spending the full allowance carefully.
Is there a limit on comments and connection notes?
Comments and replies cap at 1,250 characters. Connection request notes cap at 200 on a free account and 300 on Premium, Sales Navigator, and Recruiter. Both are in the picker above.
