# How many messages can you send on LinkedIn?

**Message limit:** LinkedIn publishes no daily cap on messages to your existing connections; what it meters is InMail, the paid message to someone you are not connected to, which is issued as monthly credits and returned when the recipient replies.

Also called: LinkedIn message limit, InMail credits, LinkedIn DM limit, how many InMails can you send, LinkedIn messaging limit.

Two different things get called the message limit. Messaging your first-degree connections is free and uncounted, with a cap on length rather than volume: 8,000 characters per message. InMail is the paid one, capped at a 2,000-character body and a 200-character subject line, and it is metered.

The metering is where the interesting rule sits. Credits arrive on the first day of your billing cycle and roll over month to month up to a ceiling, which for Sales Navigator is 50 a month accumulating to a maximum of 150. And a credit comes back whenever an InMail is accepted, declined, or replied to within 90 days. An InMail that gets a response is effectively free; only the ignored ones cost anything.

That is a pricing decision. LinkedIn is not charging for messages, it is charging for irrelevance. Your real monthly allowance is set by your reply rate, not by your plan, and the account that writes to fewer, better-chosen people can send more messages than the one working from a list.

The uncapped side is not unlimited, it is just unpublished. LinkedIn names messages first in its description of what triggers enforcement: "sharing high volumes of messages, comments, posts, or other content in a short period of time" can limit your content or restrict the account. No threshold is given, and the pattern that gets noticed is volume compressed into a short window rather than a total.

The practical version is short. Nobody has ever been restricted for sending twenty replies over a working day. The restrictions follow near-identical messages sent to strangers at a rate no one could type.

## In Depost AI

Depost AI drafts replies and DMs in your voice, in the thread where the conversation already started, and stops there. It sends nothing on its own and has no list to work through, so the only messages that leave your account are ones you read and sent yourself.

## Questions people ask

### How many messages can you send on LinkedIn per day?

LinkedIn publishes no daily number for messages to your connections. It does act on high volumes sent in a short period, so the constraint is the rate and the sameness of the messages rather than a total.

### Do unused InMail credits roll over?

Yes, up to a ceiling. Credits accumulate month to month, and Sales Navigator allows a maximum accumulated balance of 150 against a monthly allotment of 50.

### Do you get an InMail credit back if someone replies?

Yes. LinkedIn returns the credit for any InMail accepted, declined, or responded to within 90 days of being sent. Messages that are ignored are the only ones that cost you.

### What is the LinkedIn message character limit?

8,000 characters for a direct message to a connection. InMail is shorter: 2,000 characters in the body and 200 in the subject line.
