# What is brand voice?

**Brand voice:** Brand voice is the consistent set of choices that makes writing recognisable as coming from a particular person or company: vocabulary, sentence rhythm, how formal it is, what it refuses to say, and which arguments it keeps returning to.

Also called: tone of voice, voice matching, writing in your voice.

Voice is often described as a mood, which makes it impossible to act on. It is more useful understood as a set of constraints. Short sentences or long ones. Jargon or plain words. First person or third. Confident claims or hedged ones. Written down, those constraints are reproducible; left as a feeling, they are not.

The most reliable source of a voice is not a questionnaire but a corpus. What someone says they sound like and what they actually publish are usually different, and the published record is the honest version.

For teams running several people’s LinkedIn presences, voice is the thing that does not transfer. A single house style flattens everyone into the same person, which readers notice immediately, so each brand or individual needs its own definition kept separate from the others.

Voice also drifts, and should. The version of you writing today is not the version from two years ago, so anything modelling a voice needs to keep reading recent work rather than fixing on a snapshot.

## In Depost AI

Depost AI learns your voice from the posts you have already published rather than a tone questionnaire, and re-learns from every edit you make to a draft. Each brand keeps its own, so a client’s voice never leaks into another client’s posts.

## Questions people ask

### How does an AI tool learn my brand voice?

The better approach is reading what you have already published rather than asking you to describe yourself. Depost AI learns from the posts on the LinkedIn account you connect, and re-learns from every edit you make to a draft.

### Can one account have more than one voice?

It should, if you write for more than one person. In Depost AI each brand carries its own voice, analytics, and memory, so a client’s voice never leaks into another client’s posts.
